AP BIOLOGY
Advanced Placement Biology is a college level biology course designed for the advanced, above average student. The course follows the suggested syllabus of the College Board.
Students prepare for the AP exam on May 14, 2012.
- every student in the class will take the exam in May - date and time are not negotiable
- the date and time of your particular exam is May 14, 7:45 am
- an AP letter regarding payment will be mailed next week
- the cost of the exam is $86
- payment is due by November 16, 2011
- free/reduced lunch students can apply to Mr. Sears for a $22 reduction, request due by October 27th
A double lab period is offered about once a week.This gives the students the opportunity to perform the 12 required AP Biology labs
The course will cover:
- cellular physiology
- biochemistry
- molecular genetics
- plant physiology
- animal anatomy and physiology
In addition to the course requirements, the students will:
- Read Ishmael, a novel
- Complete an independent study on the ecology/environmental unit
- Dissect fetal pigs and sharks
- Complete an imovie presentation on a medical issue
- Field trip to "Bodies"
AP biology is a rigorous course. It requires extensive reading, excellent note taking skills, application of concepts, and a high level of academic performance. The class is taught at the college level. Expectations are high but every effort is made to give the students the opportunity to succeed.
